Solid timber sports flooring for a school gymnasium in Sydney’s Inner West
Dulwich Hill School asked us to replace the timber sports floor in their gymnasium — the hall that carries PE lessons, school sport, assemblies and community use. A school gym floor is not a domestic job: it has to take point loads from equipment, constant foot traffic and the wear of court sport.
We installed a new solid timber floor across the full gymnasium. The works ran through July 2026.

What the job involved
Working in an occupied school. Access, deliveries and noise all have to fit around the school’s timetable. We staged the work so the hall was handed back finished and ready to use rather than half-done.
Getting the base right. On a floor this size, anything wrong underneath shows up as movement or noise later. The subfloor was prepared and levelled before a single board went down — the least visible part of the job and the part that decides how the floor performs in five years.
Laying the floor. Solid timber boards were laid across the full gymnasium, cut in around doorways, thresholds and floor fittings.

Solid hardwood is still the standard for sports halls for good reasons: it takes the impact and it gives underfoot the way a sports surface should — so the same floor can serve a school for decades.
